About Dr. Khandekar

Dr. Archan Khandekar is a urologic oncologist and surgeon-scientist at the Desai Sethi Urology Institute, University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, and Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. He cares for patients with prostate, bladder, and kidney cancer, drawing on robotic surgery, image-guided prostate biopsy, and focal therapy to match each person with the right treatment at the right time.

He grew up in Ahmedabad, India, and trained as a physician at Smt. NHL Municipal Medical College, where he graduated first in his class and earned six gold medals from Gujarat University. He completed a residency in general surgery and then specialized in urology at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai, one of India's major academic hospitals, before practicing as a urologist in his home city.

In 2022 he came to the University of Miami for advanced fellowship training in urologic oncology, and he now serves on faculty as an Assistant Professor. His clinical work spans the full arc of cancer care, from diagnosis and shared decision-making through surgery and long-term survivorship.

A second thread runs through his career, in the laboratory and at the keyboard. He builds the artificial intelligence that is beginning to reshape surgery: a surgery-to-text platform that turns operations into structured research data, computer-vision models for the operating room, and augmented-reality tools for biopsy and outpatient care. As an investigator on the Miami Active Surveillance Trial, he has helped validate the genomic classifiers that separate indolent prostate cancer from disease that needs treatment.

He has published peer-reviewed research in journals including The Journal of Urology, European Urology Focus, and BJU International, and presents regularly at national meetings such as the American Urological Association. Away from the hospital he is a distance runner and photographer, and a persistent tinkerer with whatever technology comes next.
